Crusing the Danube

My wife and I departed from our normal modes of travel transportation, exploring the beautiful Danube River by Bike, and Barge this past summer. We explored the bike trails along the river by day, enjoying a comfortable cabin on the MS My Story by night. We enjoyed it so much we are looking forward to other bike and barge cruises in the near future.

MS My Story – Passau, Germany

The MS My Story is typical of the barge ships that travel the Danube and other European rivers. Approximately 100 meters long with multiple decks, the ship accommodated 150 passengers and bikes nicely. The cabin was small but comfortable. We spent most of our time either biking or touring a historic city along the Danube so the small cabin was really not a problem.

Biking the Danube in Austria – Engelhartszell – Aschach

Beginning our cruise in the Bavarian three-river town of Passau, Germany, we biked through beautiful country in four different countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary. We biked along the beautiful Danube River by day catching up to the barge at the next planned stop. Visiting three of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Bratislava, Slovakia, Budapest, Hungary and Vienna, Austria were the highlights of our tour. Biking each day 15-28 miles we saw these beautiful countries at a much more relaxed pace, letting us really explore and experience the picturesque towns along the Danube. Exploring European rivers on a Bike and Barge tour is definitely an experience you will not forget.
